What’s the Story?

My take on the classic Hurricane recipe with not a millimetre of Galliano in sight!

I was googling recipes to include on this blog and it occurred to me that the Hurricane must be due for a comeback some time soon! Unfortunately I’m not the biggest fan of anything aniseed flavoured – Sambuca, Absinthe and Galliano are all massive no’s for me! Just the smell of it turns my stomach – and I know what you’re thinking and no it’s not because of a hardcore night out with too many sambuca shots! Just don’t like the stuff – never have, probably never will!

Anyway! Campari and I are starting to become friends as I get older so I thought I’d add it to my variation on the Hurricane for that extra pop of red! Plus it keeps things Italian in the absence of Galliano hence the Italian name! Don’t let the safety of the juice fool you – after a few of these you really will be gone with the wind!

INGREDIENTS
  • 25ml Dark Rum
  • 25ml Light or Gold Rum
  • 25ml Lime
  • 25ml Orange Juice
  • 25ml Passionfruit juice or 12.5ml Passionfruit Puree
  • 12.ml Passionfruit Liqueur
  • 12.5ml Campari
  • 15ml Grenadine
Equipment

Boston Shaker, 25ml Jigger, Barspoon, Mexican Elbow

Glassware

Hurricane

Method
  1. In a boston shaker add all the ingredients (hold back 5ml of Grenadine), fill with ice and shake.
  2. Fine strain over ice into a Hurricane Glass.
  3. Add the final 5ml of Grenadine and let it settle at the bottom, then serve.
