What’s the Story?
Such a simple drink – basically a Margarita minus the Triple sec and Rum instead of Tequila. But apparently so hard to get right! I had an excellent one in Trailer Happiness not long ago, however I have also had an absolutely atrocious one relevantly recently as well! Firstly, the colour was wrong. A Daiquiri should be a greeny-yellow in colour (a result of the fresh lime juice) yet the one served to me was a cloudy white. Guard went up immediately. Secondly, the garnish. A drink should only ever be garnished with ingredients that are actually in the drink – for example, a bramble can be garnished with blackberries and lemon because they are 2 main ingredients. A Daiquiri should only be garnished with lime, either a wedge or a wheel but never ever with a maraschino cherry – which is how mine came. One look told me it wasn’t right and one sip confirmed it. Needless to say I sent it back and based on the other “cocktails” on the table I opted for the safe option of wine instead!
Anyway rant over! Here is my recipe for the perfect Daiquiri – a good hard shake and a chilled glass are all it takes!
